CBAS holds third Lecture Series

The College of Basic and Applied Sciences held it 3rd lecture series on the topic: "Science, Technology and Innovation Policy: Advice and Benchmarking to Shape the Future of a Nation" at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. The lecture was delivered by Professor Horward Alper Professor of Chemistry, University of Ottawa and a Humboldt Foundation/David Asserhofer.

 

 

In his introductory remarks, the Provost of the College Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu reiterated that the purpose of the Public lecture series is to ensure a great blend of academia and industry/public players’ mind/thinking. This he said will pave the way for perfect discussions on topics of national and international concerns objectively and dispassionately thereby advancing the frontiers of knowledge and utilising such for the kind of transformation needed to accelerate our national growth and development, leading to the building of a better society.

In his presentation, Prof Alper was concerned with the principal components of science, technology, and innovation (STI) system. This system he said was pivotal to economic advancement and societal well-being.  Therefore he encouraged the application of best practices in the implementation of the system in an evidence-based manner. He said the use of benchmarking is key to determining how a nation can position itself for maximum benefit for its citizens.

Dignitaries present at the Lecture included Prof. Samuel Offei, Pro Vice Chancellor (ASA), Prof. Francis Allotey, President, African Institue for Mathematical Sciences, Prof Daniel Asiedu, Dean, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, College Secretary, CBAS.
