The West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), a constituent unit of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences(CBAS), has donated a 4 x 4 Toyota Prado to the College and a brand new tractor to the Forest and Horticultural Research Centre (FOHCREC) another Unit in the same College.

At a brief presentation ceremony, the Director of WACCI, Professor Eric Yirenkyi Danquah said that over the years, the Centre has been working together with a number of departments in the College, especially the Crop Science Department. In light of the tremendous contributions of faculty members in the College in making the Centre what it is today, the Centre saw the need to give back to the College.

The Provost of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences, Professor Ebenezer Owusu was grateful for the donation. He handed over all documentation and the keys of both the vehicle and the tractor to the Dean of the School of Agriculture, Professor John Ofosu-Anim and charged the Dean to ensure that the vehicles were used appropriately for the required purpose.

Prof. Ofosu-Anim thanked the Director of WACCI and his team for the kind gesture and said, “this gift will go a long way to enhance the activities of the College”.

Professor George Oduro Nkansah, Coordinator of the Envirodome Vegetable Project who received the donation on behalf of the Head of FOHCREC said that the donation had come at time when WACCI and FOHCREC Envirodome Vegetable Laboratory Innovation have commenced trials at different locations such as Tamale, Ada, Ashaiman, Shai Hills and Buduatta.  He noted that the vehicle will assist the project to collect data for research, teaching and training purposes.
