Biennial Science and Development Conference

The College of Basic and Applied Sciences was established in 2014 with a key expectation to promote an aggressive research agenda that would contribute to the University of Ghana’s vision of becoming a research-intensive world-class university.

On the path to achieve its mission, the College introduced its Biennial Science and Development Conference with the aim of providing an opportunity for faculty of the college to showcase their research findings. In addition, the conference is intended to provide the space and time for faculty from different backgrounds and disciplines to exchange ideas and forge inter, multi and trans-disciplinary teams to work collaboratively on research projects in the hope of finding solutions to problems relevant to Ghana and the sub region in general. To enhance the College’s visibility, “Science and Development Journal” was established through which faculty of the College can disseminate their research findings to the scientific community. The long-term objective is to establish a high standard and internationally reputable journal within the College where scientists can share their research findings. As part of the strategy of working towards attaining the desired standard, the College has put in place systems to ensure that faculty, especially early career faculty have the support they need to produce high quality manuscripts.

This year’s edition will be held from 29th to 31st March, 2023 and is expected to attract audience from Government, Non-government Organizations (NGOs), Corporate organizations, Industry and Academia. The theme for the conference is “Leveraging Science and Technology for Development”. The guest of honour will be Dr. Eugene Owusu, Special Advisor on SDGs, Office of the President (Ghana) and the keynote speaker will be Dr. Tsepo Tsekoa, CSIR South Africa. Other speakers will include Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo (National AIDS/STI Control Programme), Dr. Foster Ansong-Bridjan (National Ambulance Service) and Nana Osei Bonsu (Private Enterprises Federation).
