Provost Vision

In order for the College to play a key role in ensuring that the University attains a World Class Status, I have outlined the following vision and strategies:

INTERNATIONALLY COMPETITIVE AND EXTENSIVE RESEARCH

  • Drive research along the 4 thematic research areas of the University: (Malaria, Food security, Environmental management, Social policy for improvement of livelihoods of all Ghanaians)

  • Encourage multi-disciplinary research teams

  • Interrogate and encourage the culture of “proposal writing and fund seeking”

  • External collaboration, organization of international research conferences / workshops and participation

INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS AND HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT

  • Technical/Administrative staff training and upgrading

  • Support for promising young faculty to pursue postdoctoral training, conferences/workshop, etc

  • Succession planning and mentoring 

  • General staff motivation

  • Create opportunities for international linkages/exposure

  • Work ethics and attitudinal change (Time management, etc)

TEACHING AND LEARNING - ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

  • Revision of existing programmes to conform to relevant and national needs; introduction of novel multidisciplinary market-driven programmes/courses

  • Encourage the institution of conducive enabling environment for teaching and learning.

  • Graduate student enrolment increment

  • Improved means of assessing students with emphasis on experiential learning

  • External review system for teaching and examinations

  • Effective advising, interactive and mentoring system 

RESOURCE MOBILIZATION AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

  • College Advancement Team: Raise funds (alumni, business sector, foundations, individuals)

  • Faculty training in improving fundraising skills

  • “Knowledge transformation” - Development of Unit Business plans

  • College Action Endowment Fund (Development, graduate student assistance, etc)

  • Advantage of huge potentials of the Agricultural Research Centers (Economics of Scale)

  • Prudent and sound financial procedures/management (zero-based budgeting for units)

ASSET MANAGEMENT - INFRASTRUCTURE/EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE AND ADVANCEMENT

  • —Maintain and beautify existing facilities and research laboratories

  • Strategic power supply

  • Ensure regular maintenance of sophisticated scientific equipment (especially those linked to the US 2 million UG investment)

  • Information management center (student’s records, data storage, etc)

  • Encourage schools to develop proposals for establishment of initiatives
