Prof. Sandow Mark Yidana is a Professor of Hydrogeology with concentration in applied numerical groundwater flow and solute transport modelling. He has also undertaken pioneering research on the application of advanced statistical techniques to the study of the sources of variation in groundwater hydrochemistry. His research works have been copiously cited across all inhabited continents. Prof. Yidana has attracted research grants and contributed to the mobilization of research support equipment and software valued over $50 million over the years. He has consulted to a number of national and international organizations including the UNDP, Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovations, the Water, Climate, and Development Program (WACDEP), Water Resources Commission, A Rocha Ghana Limited, Water Resources Commission, Newmont Ghana Gold Limited amongst others. He has mentored and continuous to mentor several professionals at the PhD level both within and outside of the University of Ghana. Prof Yidana has a track record of inclusive and transformative leadership and undertakes to create an appropriate environment which fosters innovation in all aspects of the mandate of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences. Prior to his appointment as Provost of the college, he was the Dean of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. He previously served as the Head of Department of Earth Science, and School Examinations Officer for the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.  

Prof. Yidana has an unwavering penchant for the application of technological innovations for facilitating processes especially in the areas of Teaching and Learning, and governance processes. He has served on many boards such as the University of Ghana’s Appointments and Promotions Board, College of Basic and Applied Sciences Board, Board of the Office of Research, Innovation, and Development (ORID), School Management Committee of the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, University of Ghana Academic Board, Management Committee of the Accra City Campus, Management Committee of the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD), amongst others. Since 2013, he has been on the Editorial Board of the Journal of African Earth Sciences where he serves as a subject Editor for Hydrogeology and regional editor for West Africa. He is a Fellow of the Ghana Institute of Geoscientists, and a member of other professional associations including the American Geophysical Union, International Association of Hydrogeologists, and the Geological Society of Africa.
